Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
You can either call 770-714-4439 or e-mail susan@movementpilatesga.com. Please specify what time of day works best for you.

What should I expect out of my first session?
You should arrive 10 minutes early to fill out the paper work and get a tour of the studio. The first session usually lasts about 50 minutes.

What should I wear?
You should be comfortable, but don’t wear clothes too loose. Your instructor should still be able to see you move. You can’t wear sneakers, but you should bring a pair of socks with you and you might want to think about getting a pair of socks with the grid on the bottom. You may want to bring a water bottle and a gym towel for your comfort.

How many sessions do you recommend?
Like any form of exercise, consistency is key. Generally we recommend two to three sessions a week. This can be either a private or duet session or an equipment class. American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of cardio four times a week.

What is the difference between machine Pilates and mat Pilates?
Pilates on the equipment is done under the supervision of one instructor. The instructor after assesing your goals and needs will move you from one piece of equpment to the next. The equipment in Pilates is spring based resistance making it easier on your joints. In a mat class you will be in a class with 5-8 other people so you won’t get as much one on one attention. However, the basis of pilates is the mat. So if you are healthy it is still one of the most intense workouts you can get.
